The Broadside appeared on Feb. 9, 1971. In that issue the publishers explained that The Web ceased publication due to lack of student interest. The new two-page, biweekly newspaper started as a project of an advanced journalism class. Its goal was to give students experience with working on a newspaper with a focus on straight campus news. The Broadside ran up until May 1976 when it was eventually replaced by The Journal.
